After breakfast this morning we checked out of our Port Douglas hotel and loaded the car up for our trip to Cairns, where we would be spending the next 3 nights.
After checking into our hotel and unloading our stuff, we headed to the Cairns Aquarium. This is located in a big building in the centre of town and looked like a great way to spend a few hours. It is very new and we spent a good few hours here enjoying the exhibits and shows. We both very easily could have sat longer and watched all the animals in the giant tanks swimming around. We both really loved the aquarium and would highly recommend it.
We grabbed a quick snack at the cafe next to the aquarium before we headed down the esplanade to check out what Cairns had to offer.
A friend had recommended Waterbar & Grill steakhouse restaurant to us and we had dinner there tonight. We ordered one of almost everything and everything was delicious. The waitress had a good poker face when we ordered about 5 different meals for two people hahaha.
The night markets are one of the more unique offerings in Cairns and worth a quick look. There were quite a few empty shops when we visited, but again this was probably because we visited just after the most strict restrictions were lifted and a lot of people had not managed to get back to normal yet. There is a place at the entrance that sells churros that were absolutely delicious, so make sure you grab one of these if you do visit.
